This month we have a variety of upcoming events, including the next in our series of film screenings, 'The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp', a selection of free Friday talks and curator tours of the galleries.  Be sure not to miss our current temporary exhibitions, 'Foe to Friend' and 'Shakespeare and War’, which will both close later this year. March also marks Women’s History Month, and we will share a selection of stories and events celebrating women’s roles in the Army on our social media channels. Celebrating Women’s History Month

Gaining Ground: Serving with the Women’s Royal Army Corps 15 March, 6.00pm, £8.00 To mark the 75th anniversary of the WRAC, join four former members of the Women’s Royal Army Corps who served at different stages of its history. Together, they will share their experiences of service and discuss how much changed during the WRAC’s short but significant lifespan.

Soldiers on Screen: The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp 23 March, 1.45pm, £18.00 A high point of British cinema during the Second World War. Both moving and slyly satirical, follow a young soldier in the Boer War through to his service in both World Wars. Blimp’s story offers vital and still-relevant reflections on nationhood, identity, generational conflict and much more.

Curator Tours

Uniform of the Crimean War 22 March 2024, 2.00pm, £5.00 Explore the range of uniforms worn during the Crimean War with curator Mel Price. Highlights of the tour include the iconic redcoat of an infantry officer, a jacket worn during the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade, and the intricate helmet of one of the dragoon guards who served in the Heavy Brigade.
