THE CHELSEA CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON – SATURDAY 23RD NOVEMBER 2019

King’s Road unveils its new Christmas light scheme as part of Chelsea’s 2019 Festive offering

Chelsea announces its Christmas Lights Switch On for Saturday 23rd November. Returning with magical displays across Sloane Square, Sloane Street, Duke of York Square and Pavilion Road - and, for the first time, new ‘gateway lights’ for the King’s Road, to celebrate its regal heritage.

The new displays will see decorative lights inspired by the crown of King Charles II, who the Road was originally built for as a private route to travel between palaces. He famously restored Christmas to the nation following Oliver Cromwell’s ban on festivities for over a decade.

The switch-on will be celebrated in style from 2pm on Saturday 23rd November, with an array of unmissable entertainment including carol singers and performers spanning across the neighbourhood, perfect for the whole family. At 5pm, Father Christmas and his ‘special helper’ – a local child in particular need of a Christmas treat – will turn on the Christmas Lights. Hosted at Sloane Square, the big switch on which will see Duke of York Square, Pavilion Road, Sloane Street, and King’s Road light up, marking the start of the Christmas season.
A Christmas shopping event will follow on Saturday 7th December, with a host of activities and offers across the area, including complimentary horse and carriage rides, wreath-making classes, chestnut roasting and plenty of festive music.

Oxford Street Christmas Lights 2019

Christmas is officially on the way, as the date for the Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on has been revealed – and we only have three weeks to wait.
The West End of London will be illuminated on Thursday 21st November, and for the first time in six years, shoppers will be enjoying a new view because the giant sparkling baubles have been swapped for a spectacular digital lighting scheme.
The arrival of the new Christmas lights is timed with the 60th edition of the official Christmas lights switch-on, and the new decorations will be environmentally-focused too, thanks to 27 LED light curtains displaying curated content. The 220,000 lights are designed to provide energy savings of up to 90 per cent against traditional lighting.
'Oxford Street is an internationally renowned shopping and leisure destination and forever at the forefront of technological advances and industry innovation,' says Luciana Magliocco, Associate Director at New West End Company. 'This year’s brand new light scheme showcases how the street continues to push boundaries to offer an unrivalled festive shopping experience for visitors and tourists alike.'
Visitors from around the globe are expected in their thousands to witness Oxford Street's new Christmas lighting experience and kick off the countdown to Christmas, on what is Europe’s longest shopping street with 1.5 miles of shopping running from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road.
Of course, it wouldn't be a light switch-on without some entertainment, and this year attendees will be treated to one-night-only offers and events from brands, as well as intimate in-store gigs, with acts soon to be announced.
We're feeling festive already!
• The Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on will take place on Thursday 21st November, starting around 5.30pm. For more information visit @oxfordstreetW1 and www.oxfordstreet.co.uk.
