Newly commissioned work from cheeky doodle-bomber Hattie Stewart

On 17 April 2015 Hattie Stewart: Adversary will open in the South Gallery at House of Illustration.

This is a new body of work from the self-proclaimed professional ‘doodle-bomber’, in which Stewart takes on glossy advertising imagery with her characteristic homage-meets-satire approach.

Hattie Stewart: Adversary is the first in House of Illustration’s series of illustrator commissions – new work from contemporary illustrators to be shown in House of Illustration’s South Gallery.

Stewart’s cartoon-like embellishments of ‘aspirational’ imagery have an infectious sense of fun, but also challenge the authority and values of the mass media.  She cheerfully lampoons our fascination with celebrity culture and the manipulation of the public identities of high-profile women.

Olivia Ahmad, House of Illustration curator, said: “Hattie’s unmistakably cheeky approach to image-making has made her one of the most in-demand illustrators working in the UK today.  Her determined personal vision is key to her striking collaborations with major artists and brands, and we are proud to present her latest independent project ‘Adversary’ as our first House of Illustration commission”.
