Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Southwark - Blackfriars Road is currently closed until further notice between Stamford Street/Southwark Street and St George's Circus. Parts of The Cut and Union Street are also closed where they join with Blackfriars Road. This is while Thames Water investigate a burst water main outside Southwark station. All traffic is on diversion and there are delays on roads in the surrounding area. Please allow more time for your journey and consider alternative routes.

Catford - Until 19:00 on Friday 8 May, Brownhill Road will have various restrictions at the junctions of Rushey Green and Plassy Road due to SGN gas main replacement works. Until 18:00 on Tuesday 4 February, Brownhill Road will have single alternate lane working under a temporary traffic light system between Laleham Road and Bowness Road.

Central London - From 13:00 until 18:00 on Saturday 25 January, a group will form up at Richmond Terrace for a demonstration and march to Strand via Whitehall and Trafalgar Square. Delays are expected.

Westminster - From 06:00 until 20:00 on Sunday 26 January, there will be various closures throughout the Westminster area due to an event. From 07:00, Pall Mall East, Duncannon Street (between St. Martin's Place and Strand), Charing Cross slip road, Dean Street and Wardour Street (between Shaftesbury Avenue and Winnett Street) will be closed.

From 08:00, Charing Cross (between St. Martin's Place and Shaftesbury Avenue), Charing Cross Road southbound (between Denmark Street and Shaftesbury Avenue), Shaftesbury Avenue (between Charing Cross Road and Piccadilly Circus, and westbound between St Giles High Street and Cambridge Circus) and all roads in the Chinatown area will be closed.

From 09:00, High Holborn and Hyde Park Corner slip road may be closed. Trafalgar Square will still be accessible via Cockspur Street, Whitehall, Northumberland and Strand. Cockspur Street bus only section will be open to general traffic. London buses will be on diversion or stop early. All roads will reopen by 20:00.

Strand - From 13:00 until 18:00 on Sunday 26 January, a group will form up at the junction of Montreal Place for a demonstration. Delays are expected for westbound traffic.

Pall Mall - From Monday to Friday on the weeks commencing Monday 27 January and Monday 3 February, Pall Mall will be closed eastbound. This is due to Cadent Gas works.

Oxford Street - From 06:00 on Monday 27 January until 20:00 on Tuesday 14 April, Oxford Street is closed westbound between Regent Street and North Audley Street. This is due to a Westminster Council regeneration scheme.

Finchley Road - From 08:00 on Monday 27 January until 18:00 on Friday 7 February, Finchley Road and College Crescent will have various restrictions at the junction of Avenue Road. This is due to Thames Water works.

Finchley Road will have a single lane closure in both directions approaching Avenue Road, and College Crescent will have a single lane closure northbound.

A40 Westway -  From Monday 27 January, we will be reducing the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph on a section of the A40 Westway between Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park in both directions. This speed reduction will protect the flyover and significantly reduce the likelihood of unplanned work and restrictions ahead of major maintenance work planned here for late 2020.

Kew Bridge - Until autumn 2020, Cycleway 9 construction will take place at the junction of Kew Bridge, the A205 Chiswick High Road and the A315 High Street/Kew Bridge Road. Lane closures will be in place 24 hours a day at the junction and its approaches.

From 20:00 tomorrow, Friday 24 until 18:00 on Sunday 26 January, there will be no left turn from Kew Bridge on to the A315 High Street/Kew Bridge Road. A signed diversion will be in place. Bus routes 65 and N65 will be on diversion. Allow more time for your journey and travel outside peak periods if possible. Visit our Cycleway 9 travel advice page for updates.

Check whether your bus is affected.
