Burgh House & Hampstead Museum - Mental Health Awareness Week 🌿

ART   .    EVENTS   .    HISTORY
As the weather begins to warm up and things are starting to look a little more optimistic, now seems like an excellent time to talk about Mental Health Awareness Week.
This year the theme is nature, how connecting with the outdoors can help improve mental health and well-being during what has been an incredibly difficult period for so many.
And with one of London's largest free open spaces on our doorstop, it seems important to mention that this June also marks 150 years since the Hampstead Heath Act was passed which protected the heath for everyone to enjoy. The City of London are marking the anniversary with a series of events and installations, including new biodiversity signs to celebrate Hampstead Heath wildlife. You can find out more about upcoming celebrations by following #Heath150

You can find out more about Mental Health Awareness Week and how to connect with nature below; we are also celebrating International Nurses Day (12 May) with our object of the month and one year since the launch of our Art in Adversity online exhibition!

We hope you all find a chance to get out and enjoy nature this week, you can find the Mental Health Foundation's top tips for connecting with nature to improve your mental health via the link below.

Wedding update!

Current government guidelines only permit outdoor receptions until 17 May, and we didn't want our couples to miss out on celebrating with their friends and family- so we adapted!
Last Saturday we had our first al fresco reception, hosting 15 guests under our beautiful pavilion which is kindly sponsored by Osbornes Law. The pavilion looked gorgeous and with blankets for every guest and heat lamps to keep warm, the bride, groom and their guests had a fantastic time celebrating their wedding.
If you would like to find out more about weddings, receptions and private events please contact Victor Hall.

Object of the Month:

Rosslyn Lodge Auxiliary Military Hospital Album (1916-19)

In celebration of International Nurses Day on Wednesday 12 May, our Object of the Month is this Rosslyn Lodge Auxiliary Military Hospital (ca. 1916-19) photograph album!
To accommodate the great number of injured soldiers returning from the Front during the First World War, 3,000 auxiliary military hospitals and convalescent homes sprang up across the country. In 1916, Rosslyn Lodge on Lyndhurst Road was lent to the Red Cross by Herbert Hill for use as an auxiliary military hospital. The hospital received mainly bedridden patients, who were encouraged to use the gardens, as illustrated by the pictures in the photo album. It also contains pictures of some of the 2,227 patients treated from 1916-1919, as well as the nurses and staff who cared for them.
Much like the current situation, nurses and other care workers sprung to action in a time of crisis and put the needs of others before their own. On International Nurses Day, we are taking this opportunity to thank our NHS care workers who have made sacrifices and worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic.
Thank you to you all!
