Did you know?
Grotto Passage, in the north-east of the Quarter, is named after an 18th-century shell grotto by John Castle, an artist who used shells as his medium. Visitors flocked to see the grotto - which looked exactly as the name suggests - but it didn't last long after his death in 1757.
