Somerset House - The Horror Show! A Twisted Tale of Modern Britain 👹 👻 🧙‍♀️

 The Horror Show!

A Twisted Tale of Modern Britain
27 Oct 2022 - 19 Feb 2023

This autumn Somerset House presents The Horror Show! a landmark exhibition that celebrates our greatest cultural provocateurs and visionaries. We invite you on a journey to the underbelly of Britain’s cultural psyche, looking at ideas rooted in horror that have informed the last 50 years of creative rebellion.

Featuring over 200 artworks and culturally significant artefacts, plus a series of new commissions from some of our country’s most provocative artists, The Horror Show! presents an alternative perspective in three shapeshifting acts – MonsterGhost and Witch.

The exhibition offers a heady, visceral ride through the disruption of 1970s punk through to the revolutionary potential of modern witchcraft, showing how the anarchic alchemy of horror – its subversion, transgression and the supernatural – can help us make sense of the troubled world around us. Horror not only allows us to come face to face with our deepest, darkest terrors; it allows us the opportunity to stare down our fears and imagine a radically different future.
