Visit the Geffrye at its most magical time of the year
The Geffrye's annual celebration Christmas Past opens on 26 November when each of our 11 period rooms will be authentically decorated, giving visitors an evocative insight into how Christmas has been celebrated in English middle-class homes over the past 400 years.
There will be an exciting programme of free seasonal events for all ages, festive food in thecafé, and a variety of Christmas gifts in the shop. Come and be merry! |
Open Evening: An Edwardian Christmas
Thursday 5 December, 5 - 8pm. Free.
Enjoy Christmas Past by candlelight, listen to a seasonal talk, watch a greenery demonstration, sing along to live festive music or bring children to a decoration-making workshop. Enjoy a festive supper or find an unusual gift in the shop.

Christmas Past Family Day
Saturday 7 December, 10.30am - 4pm. Free.
A day of seasonal activities for all ages including free decoration workshops for artists aged 2-16. There will also be an all ages sing-along to Christmas carols at 2pm and 3pm.

Explore Christmas traditions in the Edwardian period in this informal gallery talk with one of the museum's curators.

 Farewell to Christmas
Sunday 5 January 2014, 3.30 - 5pm. Free.
Join us for the Geffrye's own traditional burning of the holly and the ivy, with carol singing, stories about Epiphany and a taste of mulled wine and Twelfth Night cake. Please note that this event takes place in the garden, so wrap up warm!
