Big stage productions meet the big screen as Empire Cinemas announces its November line-up of arts and live performance screenings:
·         Frankenstein (NT Live)
·         Hockney: Live From LA
·         L’elisir D’amore (ROH Live)

Empire Cinemas is proud to announce its November line-up of arts and live performance screenings available nationwide through its Empire Extra programme. From musical theatre to opera, comedy and ballet, Empire Extra invites enthusiasts to enjoy screenings of their favourite productions, from the comfort of their local cinema at a fraction of the theatre ticket price. Some showings will even be screened live simultaneously, with the action taking place on stage, meaning cinema-goers needn’t miss a moment.

As part of the National Theatre's 50th anniversary celebrations, NT Live’s 2011 broadcast of Frankenstein (Encore) feat. Miller as the Creature, directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), will be screened for a second consecutive month on 3rd November at Empire Cinemas. This recent classic stars 2012 Olivier Award ‘Best Actor’ winner Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Into Darkness, BBC’s Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, CBS’s Elementary).

Acclaimed filmmaker Randall Wright’s Hockney: Live from LA will be screened in Empire Cinemas on 25th November. For the first time, definitive artist David Hockney has given access to his personal archive of photographs and film, resulting in an unparalleled visual diary of a long life. The film chronicles Hockney’s vast career; from his early life in working-class Bradford, where his love for pictures was developed through his admiration for cinema, to his relocation to Hollywood where his lifelong struggle to escape labels (‘queer’, ‘working class’, figurative artist’) was fully realised.

Straight to the big screen, live from the Royal Opera House on 26thNovember is a three-act romantic comedy L’elisir D’amore, conducted by Daniele Rustioni and directed by Laurent Pelly. Containing the perfect blend of sentiment and tomfoolery, this great piece boasts the starry cast of Lucy Crowe, Vittorio Grigolo and Levente Molnár.

Jon Nutton, Marketing Director of Empire Cinemas, said: “Empire Extra brings the excitement of live events and stage productions from around the world right to our customers across the UK. We’re delighted to showcase award-winning productions and offer Empire customers the chance to see a wide variety of artistic performances on the big screen.”
