Let's flip into the world of coins!

Dear Dominic,

The British Museum has a super cool department all about coins and medals! They collect, study, and look after all kinds of coins from around the world.

This week we’ll be learning all about the fantastic coins in the collection.

In this week’s email you can...

  • Make your own stand out Roman coin.

  • Discover a heartwarming love note found on the back of a coin.

  • Explore coins from around the world, big and small.

  • Find out what the day of a curator in the Department of Coins and Medals looks like.

Plus, if you really like ancient Rome and want to ask one of our brilliant curators a question about it, you can find out how below!

Older Young Friends, ages 14+, can scroll down to learn more about money and how it works in our world. And discover the scheme managed by the British Museum that keeps track of treasures found by the public.

If you’re looking to get closer to history onsite at the British Museum, why not try out one of our many family events and activities during your next visit? Join us for a demonstration of a Japanese tea ceremony and enjoy a brief history of tea drinking in Japan (24 November 2023–26 April 2024). Under fives and their adults can also join the Little Feet teddies to learn all about Egyptian mummification techniques (13 November).
