Transport for London - Weekend travel information - 23rd - 24th April 2016 - London Marathon

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 23/24 April. Most of the network will be open with services running as normal, but please check if any of the following affect you.



London Marathon

The London Marathon is taking place on Sunday. This runs from Greenwich to The Mall via Charlton, Woolwich, Deptford, Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, Wapping, Shadwell, the Isle of Dogs, Poplar, Tower Hill, Embankment and Westminster.

There will be significant road closures along the route from 07:00 until 19:00. Some buses may be diverted or stop short of their normal destination. Tube and rail will be the best way to get around on the day, but stations in the vicinity may get busy at certain times. A number of Santander Cycles docking stations will also be out of service. London Underground


We are undertaking a comprehensive improvement programme across London’s transport network, including the modernisation of the Tube.

Northern line
There will be no service between Archway and High Barnet/Mill Hill East. This is to allow for track replacement work at Finchley Central.




London Overground


There will be no service between Gospel Oak and Barking, to prepare the line for electrification.

On Sunday, trains between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town/Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters)/Chingford will start running at 10:15, due to Network Rail track work.

On Monday, there will be no northbound service between Bethnal Green and Enfield Town/Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) after 23:00, due to Network Rail track work.

After 22:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, trains will not run between Bethnal Green and Enfield Town/Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters), due to Network Rail track work.





DLR


On Sunday there will be the following changes for the London Marathon:
Trains between Tower Gateway and Lewisham will start earlier at 05:30
Trains from Beckton will terminate at Poplar. Before 10:00, trains from Woolwich Arsenal will terminate at Poplar and at Canary Wharf after 10:00

Buses


Bus users may be affected by the following this weekend. While we will try to maintain a good service, buses may be delayed or stop short of their normal destination:

Wembley - From 14:00 on Saturday until 20:30 on Sunday, roads in and around the stadium will be busier than usual, including the A406, Harrow Road and Wembley High Road. This is for a sporting event.

Central London - From 14:00 until 17:00 on Saturday, there will be delays to traffic on various roads, including Marble Arch, Oxford Street, Regent Street and Whitehall. This is for a march.

Central, east and southeast London - From 07:00 until 19:00 on Sunday, there will be full road closures from Greenwich Park to St James's Park for the London Marathon. Closures in the City and central London will include all approaches to Upper Thames Street, Tower Hill and Victoria Embankment. Rotherhithe Tunnel and Tower, Southwark and Westminster Bridges will also be closed. Limehouse Link Tunnel will be closed in both directions and East India Dock Tunnel will be closed westbound from 06:00. Additionally, the closure of Victoria Embankment between Tower Hill and Westminster Bridge will be in place until 05:00 on Monday, for Cycle Superhighway works. Westminster - From 10:20 until 11:30 on Monday, Whitehall will be closed in both directions between Horse Guards Avenue and Parliament Square. This is for an event.

Roads


Road users may be affected by the following this weekend:

Santander Cycles


From midnight on Saturday night until 08:00 on Monday, there are a number of docking stations out of service due to the London Marathon. For more information, please visit tfl.gov.uk/marathon
The following docking stations will also be out of service this weekend:
Kingsway, for repair works
South Quay West; Wansey Street and High Holborn, for building works
Webber Street, for site reconstruction
Kennington Road Post Office, for electrical works
Greycoat Street, for an event
Hop Exchange, for carriageway resurfacing
