Women in Space
23 October, 19.30
'A bird cannot fly with one wing only. Human space flight cannot develop any further without the active participation of women.'
- Valentina Tereshkova

In 1963 Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space. Despite this triumph in gender equality, it wasn't until 1982 that another woman got the opportunity and even today space science is still male-dominated.

How will gender equality play out in future space programmes and will the first human on Mars be a woman?

Hear from French cosmonaut, Claudie Haigneré and the UK Space Agency's Libby Jackson as they discuss their unique experiences and the critical role women play in this field.
