NEW WAVE FILMS TO RELEASE LONDON SYMPHONY ON DVD, SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL TO HOST LONDON SYMPHONY PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Southwark Cathedral is delighted to announce that their Refectory Cafe will be hosting an exhibition of photographic images taken from the award winning silent film LONDON SYMPHONY (2017).

LONDON SYMPHONY is an artistic snapshot of London as it stands today, and a celebration of its rich diversity of culture, architecture and religion.

The film was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017, and was the winner of four categories in the Silent London Poll of 2017: Best Silent Film DVD/Blu-ray release, Best Silent Film Theatrical Release, Best Modern Silent Film of 2017 and Silent Hero of 2017 for the film's director and editor Alex Barrett.

During the making of the film, Barrett took a wide range of photographs which, like the film itself, offer a poetic journey through the capital. The photography exhibition will feature a curated selection of these images, along with two photographs of Southwark Cathedral taken especially for the occasion.

Says Barrett: "I am absolutely thrilled to be able to present my first solo photography exhibition at the beautiful surroundings of Southwark Cathedral.  Given that many of my images focus on London architecture, I am excited to be able to hold the exhibition at one of the most striking and iconic buildings in the city." The Cathedral's Sub-Dean, Canon Michael Rawson, added: "Southwark Cathedral is an inclusive Christian community where we are passionate about celebrating our wonderful city of London. There has been a Christian presence on this site since the 7th century and we continue to engage with our vibrant, diverse and multicultural community which is showcased in the film and images London Symphony. We look forward to welcoming all visitors who come to see these wonderful photographs and to explore what it means to live a good life in this fantastic city."

The exhibition runs from the 10th February – 2nd March in the Cathedral Refectory, (Montague Close, London, SE1 9DA). For more information, please visit: https://www.southwarkcathedral.org.uk/about/news/london-symphony-a-poetic-journey-through-the-life-of-a-city-photographic-exhibition/

The exhibition has been timed to coincide with a special, candle-lit screening of LONDON SYMPHONY which will take place in the nave of the Cathedral on February 23rd. This screening is part of the film's ongoing UK theatrical tour, which was launched with a sold out screening at the Barbican Centre in September 2017.

LONDON SYMPHONY will also be released in the UK on DVD through New Wave Films on Monday February 12th 2018. In addition to the film, the disc will contain an exclusive video introduction by director/editor Alex Barrett, and HUNGERFORD: SYMPHONY OF A LONDON BRIDGE (2009) – a 3-minute short film which presents an abstract journey over Hungerford Bridge and the footbridges alongside it. Made by the team behind LONDON SYMPHONY, it is a direct precursor to the feature film.
