What's on in September

There's no let-up in our ambitious programming this autumn, with a site-wide takeover from London Design Biennale 2018 this month, followed by a very special birthday celebration for Somerset House Studios. Look out too for Hannah Perry's first solo UK exhibition since 2015 and the arrival of TBCTV, transforming Somerset House’s Lancaster Rooms into a mock TV studio.

London Design Biennale 2018

The world of design takes over the entirety of Somerset House for the next few weeks with the return of London Design Biennale. Featuring over 40 countries, cities and territories, the 2018 Biennale is devoted to the theme Emotional States to explore big questions about sustainability, migration, pollution, energy, cities, and social equality. 

Enjoy engaging talks and interactive installations, innovations, artworks and proposed design solutions - all in an immersive, inspiring and entertaining tour of the world.

Project O: Saved

Somerset House Studios residents Project O present a new video artwork considering Somerset House’s historical connection to the British Royal Navy.

For eighty years from the end of the eighteenth century the Navy’s administrative offices occupied the building. In this new commission by Somerset House Studios, the first in a series of works exploring the subject, Project O asks questions about choice, inevitability, movement, defiance and surrender that arise in relation to water -  will the waves always rule us?

Transforming Somerset House’s Lancaster Rooms into a mock TV studio, TBCTV presents a dynamic and evolving programme of new live theatre and film screenings from Studios residents Mel Brimfield, Ewan Jones Morris and Chloe Lamford, including a new short play from award-winning Welsh playwright and screenwriter, Tim Price.

HANNAH PERRY: GUSH

In her first UK solo exhibition since 2015, Studios resident Hannah Perry presents GUSH, a captivating and poignant exhibition featuring large-scale dynamic sculpture, sound and film, in a candid and personal exploration of mental and emotional health in our contemporary, hyper-networked society.

AGM featuring Beatrice Dillon, Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, Brood Ma & more special guests

Since October 2016, Somerset House Studios has nurtured a unique community of over 300 artists and makers who’ve inspired a boundary breaking programme of events, workshops and exhibitions rooted in art, music, subversion, critical thinking and the celebration of counter cultural movements. 

For one night only, AGM sees Somerset House Studios artists take over the Grade I listed former Admiralty HQ on-site, giving you a rare opportunity to access three floors of private underground spaces filled with film, music, pop-up bars and an after-hours party like no other.
