Weekend travel information

We are using hospital-grade cleaning products in all public areas across the network. Key interchanges at our stations are being cleaned throughout the day, and we have increased our cleaning frequency to ensure regularly touched surfaces are clean.

Since September, Imperial College London has run monthly tests for all virus variants on the transport network. Sampling has taken place at a variety of stations and on buses and trains — with the locations changing for each round — and swabs taken from heavily touched areas and air tested for any airborne traces. None of the tests have found any traces of the virus.

The Government restrictions on travel currently say to stay at home and only certain journeys are legally permitted on public transport. If you are not certain about the Government’s rules, please check their website for further information.

If you need to travel this weekend for a legally permitted reason, here are details that may affect your journey. We have tools to help you plan your journey, including information on the quiet times to travel. Please travel at these quiet times if at all possible to ensure that social distancing can be maintained. The quiet times are between 08:15 and 16:00, and after 17:30 on weekdays and before noon and after 18:00 on weekends.

We have also published information about quiet stations and stops. The information will be updated regularly which will also help maintain social distancing. You can also find out more about what we are doing to keep our services clean.

You must continue to wear a face covering over your nose and mouth at all times when on the transport network, unless exempt. The overwhelming majority of people are complying with this requirement and the British Transport Police and our own officers are on the network to check compliance. Fines of up to £6,400 exist for anyone who does not comply.

Please also wash or sanitise hands before and after travel.

Bus strike

A number of bus drivers will potentially strike on Wednesday 24 March, due to a dispute with bus operator RATP Dev London.

Some bus routes in south west, west and north west London and parts of Hertfordshire and Surrey are likely to be severely disrupted on Wednesday 24 March.

Services will return to normal from 06:00 on Thursday 25 March.

If you need to travel for legally permitted reasons during this period, check before you travel

Should the strike go ahead, please consider walking or cycling to local destinations where possible, or other travel alternatives. Check before you travel, allow more time for your journey and travel at quiet times.

Other bus operators and other modes on our network will continue to run.
