Weekend travel information

Thank you for continuing to follow the Government restrictions on travel as we all work together to tackle the pandemic.

The key Government requirement is to stay at home and only certain journeys are legally permitted on public transport. If you are not certain about the Government’s rules, please check their website for further information.

If you are using public transport for a legally permitted reason, we have tools to help you plan your journey, including information on the quiet times to travel. Please travel at these quiet times if at all possible to ensure that social distancing can be maintained. The quiet times are between 08:15 and 16:00, and after 17:30 on weekdays and before noon and after 18:00 on weekends.

We have also published information about quiet stations and stops. The information will be updated regularly which will also help maintain social distancing.

You must wear a face covering over your nose and mouth at all times when on the transport network, unless exempt. The overwhelming majority of people are complying with this requirement and the British Transport Police and our own officers are on the network to check compliance. Fines of up to £6,400 exist for anyone who does not comply.

Please also wash or sanitise hands before and after travel.

Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe during this period.

Bus strike

A number of bus drivers will potentially strike on Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Wednesday 10 March, due to a dispute with the operator RATP.

Some bus routes in west and south west London, and parts of Surrey are likely to be severely disrupted on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 March. Some bus routes in north west London and parts of Hertfordshire are likely to be severely disrupted on Wednesday 10 March.

Services will return to normal from 06:00 on Sunday 7 March, and from 23:59 on Wednesday 10 March.

If you need to travel for legally permitted reasons during this period, check before you travel

Should the strike go ahead, please consider walking or cycling to local destinations where possible, or other travel alternatives. Check before you travel, allow more time for your journey and travel at quiet times.

Other bus operators and other modes on our network will continue to run.

Until the end of May

Hounslow works

There will be a series of lane closures and temporary traffic lights in operation on Faggs Road between the junction with Causeway to Staines Road. This is while Thames Water carry out essential work to replace a main. Delays are expected, and we advise to plan ahead, check before you travel and use alternative routes.

Until Friday 5 March

Gallows Corner flyover

Gallows Corner flyover at the junction of the A12 and A127 will be closed in both directions each day between 08:00 and 17:00. This is while we carry out essential maintenance. The flyover will be reopened to traffic each night, however, please be aware that there is a weight limit of 7.5 tonnes. While it is closed, please use the roundabout beneath the flyover, or plan alternative routes. For the latest information on how roads are operating in your area, check before you travel.

Until Friday 12 March

City of London works

There will be a series of works on King William Street, Upper Thames Street and Lower Thames Street, while we carry out essential work to assess the state of repair of some of our structures located beneath the road bridge. From 22:00 on March 1 until 05:00 on March 2, Upper and Lower Thames Street will be closed eastbound from the junction with Swan Lane to the junction with Fish Street Hill. Diversions will be in place and access to London Bridge will be maintained.

Until Wednesday 31 March

Swiss Cottage gyratory works

Cadent Gas and Thames Water will be doing works around the Swiss Cottage gyratory. The works have been planned collaboratively to share space around the gyratory, reducing the overall disruption that would occur.

The works include TfL signalling upgrades around the gyratory, Cadent gas main works on the north side of the junction, and Thames Water works in the central reservation.

No road closures will be in place during the works, but there will be lane restrictions along each working area. Please follow the temporary signage and pass through the gyratory with care.
