Born on this day in 1834, William Morris created some of the most recognisable and timeless textile designs of the nineteenth century.

Morris was fascinated by artistic techniques. This allowed him to design a wide array of products, from furniture fabrics to rugs and tapestries.

He taught himself to embroider, eventually founding his own textiles company, Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co in 1861.

The largest project Morris ever created was a set of six medieval style tapestries, depicting the legends of King Arthur.
