Weekend travel information

If you need to travel this weekend, here are planned works on certain sections of the network that may affect your journey.

Our transport network has never been cleaner. Since September, Imperial College London has run monthly tests for coronavirus on the transport network and found no trace. You can read their recently published report.

Air continuously flows through all our trains, trams and buses. For example, on average, air in a Tube train changes every few minutes. Buses are fitted with air extraction and ventilation systems and we also leave windows open throughout the passenger area to keep a flow of fresh air.

Please continue to walk or cycle part of your journey where possible. If using public transport, travel during quieter times if you can. This will make social distancing easier. The quieter times to travel are:

  • Between 08:15 and 16:00 and after 17:30 on weekdays
  • Before noon and after 18:00 on weekends

Our TfL Go app can help you plan your journey and show the quieter times to travel.

You must continue to wear a face covering over your nose and mouth at all times when on the transport network, unless exempt. The overwhelming majority of people are complying with this requirement, and the British Transport Police, the Metropolitan Police and our own officers are on the network to check compliance. Fines of up to £6,400 exist for anyone who does not comply.

Please also wash or sanitise hands before and after travel.

London Underground

Most Tube services run until approximately 1am and our Night Bus services continue to operate. Taxi and private hire services are also available. Night Tube and Night Overground services are not operating.

Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Bus strike

A number of bus drivers are striking today, Thursday 15 April, due to a dispute with bus operator RATP Dev London.

Some bus routes in west and south west London and parts of Surrey are likely to be severely disrupted.

Services will return to normal from 06:00 tomorrow, Friday 16 April.

If you need to travel during this period, check before you travel

Please consider walking or cycling to your destinations where possible, or other travel alternatives. Check before you travel, allow more time for your journey and travel at quieter times.

Other bus operators and other modes on our network will continue to run.

Bank Street reopening

From Saturday 17 April, Bank Street will be reopened (eastbound direction towards Canary Wharf Station). Bus routes 135, 277, D7, N277 and N550 will now run along Bank Street again in both directions and serve bus stop K. Bus stop K is located close to the entrance to Jubilee Place Shopping Centre, providing easy access to the main Jubilee line entrance at Canary Wharf station and interchange with the DLR via Heron Quays station.

School bus service resumes

From Monday 19 April, bus services are planned to run similarly to how they did earlier in the spring term. Extra services will run on some routes, with up to half of buses on certain higher frequency routes signed as ‘school services’ during travel times (between 07:30 and 09:00 in the morning and between 14:30 and 16:30 in the afternoon).

We also plan to run a full service on our school-day-only routes (routes generally numbered 600-699). These arrangements will remain in place until at least the summer term, but we will keep them under review and closely monitor demand for services.

Schoolchildren travelling without adults should use the school services where possible, to help provide space for customers on regular services as demand increases following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

15 April until 22 May

Kingston closures

There will be a series of overnight directional closures on the A3 between Hook Underpass and the Kingston Bypass. Works will take place Monday to Friday between 22:00 and 05:00 with all restrictions removed during the day. This is while we carry out essential maintenance. Diversion routes will be clearly signed, however you are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible. For the latest information on how roads are operating in your area check before you travel.

Until early May

Twickenham Lane closures

Until early May, there is a series of lane closures in both directions on the A316, Great Chertsey Road between the Apex Corner roundabout and the junction with Hospital Bridge Road. This is while Triio carry out essential gas main replacement works. Delays are expected. Please plan ahead, check before you travel and use other routes where possible.

Until the end of May

Hounslow works

There will be a series of lane closures and temporary traffic lights in operation on Faggs Road between the junction with Causeway to Staines Road. This is while Thames Water carry out essential work to replace a main. Delays are expected, and we advise to plan ahead, check before you travel and use alternative routes.
