We are delighted to announce the second of our In Focus series: Celebrating Sculptress Anne Seymour Damer opening this Sunday 17 October. We will celebrate works created by Horace Walpole’s beloved goddaughter, sculptress Anne Seymour Damer (1748 – 1828), who inherited the House upon his death in 1797. The central object in the new display is Damer’s marble bust of her mother, Caroline Campbell, Lady Ailesbury, probably made in the late 1780s. The bust, today owned by a private collector, was until recently on display in New York’s Metropolitan Museum. A second marble bust is also on show, a Niobid, which was until recently thought to be lost and will be displayed at the House for very the first time.
The display opens from the 17 October 2021 - 3 January 2022, access is included in general admission to the House.
Also coming up, don't miss our ever-popular Gothic Twilight Tours on the 27 & 28 October and, looking ahead to November, booking is now open for this years Christmas Fair, which will run over two days 27 & 28 November. More details and booking information can be found below.
