Burgh House - April at Burgh House

Just as we thought spring had arrived and the garden began to bloom, the typical British weather sent us a cold snap and some snow! However, worry not, our famous wisteria is thriving despite this and is covered in new buds which promise to bloom later in the month.

Although we were sad to see the warm weather go, we were secretly pleased with Thursday's snow flurry as we had our (very belated thanks to Covid!) team Christmas party that evening and arrived to the venue as it was snowing. It was a white Christmas after all!

As we move into April (and cross our fingers for the better weather to return) our programme of events and exhibitions gets busier. In this week's newsletter you'll see April's events and exhibitions, plus some news on our museum rooms and our new food bank donation point.

As ever, thank you to all our members and visitors for your support and engagement. We look forward to seeing you all at April's events!

John Cecil Stephenson: A Modernist in Hampstead
Until 18 September 2022
Our brand new exhibition opened earlier this week and our visitors are already enjoying this beautiful collection of works by Stephenson, a pioneer of the Modernism in the 20th Century. We were very privileged to welcome Tony Mould to the Private View this week. Tony lived in the local area during the blitz in the Second World War and subsequently attended the Northern Polytechnic in London and was a student of Stephenson. Tony shared stories of London during the war and of Stephenson himself. He also showed his own drawings and artwork from his time as Stephenson's student. Do make sure you visit and take a look at this new exhibition!
Burgh House Food Bank Donation Point
We're really pleased to announce that we have partnered with Chalk Farm Food Bank to make Burgh House a food donation point.

Chalk Farm food bank provides three days' nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The current cost of living crisis is affecting us all. According to recent survey by the Office for National Statistics, as many as 83% adults saw an increase in their cost of living this month, up from 62% in November. Currently, 1 in 5 of the UK population live below the poverty line

We will begin taking donations from Wednesday, 6th April. If you would like to donate items, please ask at the Front Desk and we can take them for you. In the image below you'll see a 'Shopping List' of items that Chalk Farm Food Bank currently need. In addition to this list, they are also asking for donations of toothpaste, feminine hygiene products and washing detergent. Also, they have some items that they don't require at the moment, including sugar, pasta, nappies and porridge.
