On Thursday 17th November, the festive season officially starts, as Regent Street presents The Spirit of Christmas, with a star-studded switch-on of this year’s brand new Christmas lights.
From 4pm, Regent Street will be pedestrianised from Beak St down to Piccadilly, perfect for some leisurely Christmas shopping, ahead of the evening’s festivities. Hosted by Heart presenters including Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton from Heart Breakfast, the show kicks off at 6.00pm with an array of performances from special guests Rebecca Ferguson and Tom Odell. The switch-on event is brought to you by The Crown Estate with Heart, and this year’s celebration is set to take centre stage, with previous acts including Take That, Jessie Ware and Union J.
Created as a theatrical experience, the new ‘Spirit of Christmas’ display pays homage to the rich heritage and glamour of Regent Street, the first central London street to introduce festive lighting and decoration back in 1954. Designed by James Glancy Design, the street will be filled with a fleet of spectacular large-scale ‘spirits’ that will soar along the length of the street and reference contemporary art, culture and British design.
