The Celluloid Sorceress presents: Housekeeping (1987)
Thursday April 27th @ 7:30pm
Housekeeping (1987) was Bill Forsyth’s first American film and is widely considered to be his finest work.
Adapted from Marilynne Robinson’s novel, this story of two young sisters who go to live in Idaho with their unconventional and unpredictable aunt got a limited release and remains difficult to see.
Starring a “spellbinding” Christine Lahti in what Vincent Canby described as “the performance of her film career”, this rare screening from 35mm is a treat for any cinema connoisseur.
Housekeeping was the second of four collaborations with editor Michael Ellis a.c.e. We are delighted that Michael will be joining host Nikki Williams to discuss Housekeeping, his work with Bill Forsyth and other aspects of his 50 year career.
Advance tickets can be purchased direct from the Museum by calling 020 7840 2200 during office hours. Alternatively, you can click below to purchase tickets via Billetto.

Misty Moon Project present: Last Of The Summer Wine Reunion
Saturday April 29th @ 8pm
Last of the Summer Wine was created and written by Roy Clarke and was originally broadcast on the BBC. It premiered as an episode of Comedy Playhouse on 4 January 1973, and the first series of episodes followed on 12 November 1973. From 1983 to 2010, Alan J. W. Bell produced and directed all the show. The BBC confirmed on 2 June 2010 that Last of the Summer Wine would no longer be produced and the 31st series would be its last.
Subsequently, the final episode was broadcast on 29 August 2010. The final line was said by Peter Sallis, the longest serving actor.
Last of the Summer Wine was set and filmed in and around Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England, and centred on a trio of old men and their youthful antics; the membership of the trio changed several times over the years. The original trio consisted of Bill Owen as the scruffy and childlike Compo Simmonite, Peter Sallis as deep-thinking and meek Norman Clegg, and Michael Bates as authoritarian and snobbish Cyril Blamire.
