From the Curator Navigating diverse approaches to form, content and expression, this season Duncan Whitley gets to grips with place, community and protest (Thu 16 Mar), while writer Stephen Barber visits the archive to unearth long-lost 'Berlin Bodies' (Thu 20 Apr). We also listen to the 'Sound of Memory' with Sarah Turner and her team (Sun 23 Apr), go coastal with Frances Scott and Phil Coy (Thu 30 Mar) and wander through Alia Syed's celluloid film-works (Thu 27 Apr). These events are part of our year-round programme of international, innovative moving image work here at the Whitechapel Gallery. Below, you can take a look at everything we have coming up in March and April.  Gareth Evans Adjunct Film Curator, Whitechapel Gallery March *Last chance to book*  Technologies of Romance Sun 5 Mar 2017, 1.45–6pm | £12.50/10.50 concs A half-day symposium launching writer and lecturer Paul O’Kane's book Technologies of Romance. Speakers include feminist film theorist Sophie Mayer, feminist filmmaker Kim Longinotto, Howard Caygill and Maria Walsh. More Duncan Whitley: Things Fall Apart Thu 16 Mar 2017, 7pm | £9.50/£7.50 concs The premiere of Things Fall Apart by Duncan Whitley, with an introduction by Poppy Bowers, Exhibition Curator at the Whitworth Gallery, Manchester; and a Q&A between the artist and filmmaker Lucy Harris. More The Arton Review: Polish Artists’ Film Sat 18 Mar 2017, 1.30–6pm | £12.50/10.50 concs Arton Review is a Warsaw-based project in which young Polish artists create film works inspired by the classics of Polish experimental filmmaking and video art. This event showcases works commissioned by Arton to date. More Phil Coy and Frances Scott: Prairie Lands of the Sea Thu 30 Mar 2017, 7pm | £9.50/£7.50 concs A series of films exploring the estuaries and lagoons of documentary fiction. Featuring London premieres of Frances Scott’s CANWEYE {  } and INCIPIT, and Phil Coy’s Wordland. More April Berlin Bodies: Anatomising the Streets of the City Thu 20 Apr 2017, 7pm | £9.50/£7.50 concs Featuring screenings of rarely-seen Berlin films from the 1890s onwards alongside a Q&A with critic and cultural historian Stephen Barber. Barber is author of the new book Berlin Bodies. More The Sound Of Memory: Sound-track / Sound-scape Sun 23 Apr 2017, 2–6pm | £12.50/10.50 concs An afternoon bringing together composers working in acoustic ecologies and artists working within social ecologies and ethnography. Co-hosted by the Sound-Image-Space Research Centre, School of Music and Fine Art, University of Kent, the School of Sound, and Goldsmiths University of London. More Alia Syed: Recent Works Thu 27 Apr 2017, 7pm | £9.50/£7.50 concs Making films since 1986, acclaimed artist Alia Syed’s recent works combine her interest in storytelling with a compelling presentation of history as visual narrative.
