Jewish Museum London - This month at the Jewish Museum: Exhibition interventions, empathy Sundays and explorer mornings!

Explore the hidden secrets of our collection!

See our collection in a whole new light with our 'alternative' captions

The Jewish Museum London was recently awarded with funding to conduct intensive research into our Judaica collection, thanks to the Arts Council England Designation Development Fund. Twenty of our objects were intensively researched by Judaica experts and the results were fascinating.

Items that were researched include a Turkish rug, adapted for use in Jewish religious services as wall hangings or decorative coverings. It is how this object was used rather than its origin that makes this rug Jewish.

Visit our Judaism: A Living Faith Gallery to explore our new 'alternative' captions and find out what secrets you will uncover!

Want a taste of what to expect? Read a blog post about the research project and the secret life of museum objects by Assistant Curator of Collections, Jemima Jarman!

The Freuds in Hampstead Walking Tour

Sunday 25 August, 11am - 1pm
Explore the memories of the Freud family in Hampstead in this walk led by Blue Badge Guide Rachel Kolsky.
Sigmund Freud escaped Nazi occupied Vienna in 1938 to ‘die in freedom’ and his home in Hampstead became a magnet for other European refugees. But he was not the only Freud to leave his mark in NW3.
This walking tour profiles Sigmund and his friends, his daughter Anna whose work with children continues to this day in Maresfield Gardens and his son, Ernst, an architect whose modernist houses remain as a testament to his talent.

Summer holiday fun for all the family at the Jewish Museum!

Storytelling: Empathy Sundays - Environment (Storytelling & Seed Planting)
Sunday 11 August, 11-11.45am
