This September we hope that you will join us for two special evening concerts and a tour of our Music Gallery to celebrate the restoration of our early keyboard instruments acquired from the Finchcocks collection. Enjoy music from the 16th to 18th centuries by composers including Handel, Monteverdi and Haydn.

11 September: Helen Charlston (mezzo-soprano) and Terence Charlston (virginals and square piano)
12 September: Stephen Farr (chamber organ)
13 September: Music Gallery tour and keyboard demonstrations with Stephen Devine

Emerge Festival at the Horniman
Friday 27 September, 7-11pm

Join us for a unique night of music in the Museum and Gardens as part of Emerge Festival, a new London-wide festival of after-hours events.

See artists Ady Suleiman and Poppy Ajudha perform on the Horniman Bandstand from 7 - 9.30pm, then join the afterparty inside the Museum for more live music in collaboration with Jazz re:freshed, plus tours of the Music Gallery.

Weekend Activities for Families

During the weekends, we have a variety of activities for you to take part in and enjoy.

On Saturday and Sunday mornings visit the Hands on Base to discover and touch real museum objects ranging from African masks to sharks jaws and puppets.

On Saturday afternoons you can create some fabulous art and craft, and on Sunday afternoons the Horniman’s collections come alive with stories from around the world.

Festival of Creative Ageing at the Horniman
Sunday 29 September, 11am-3.30pm

Come along to a day of music, dance and activities by older artists as well as artists working with older people from Lewisham and the local area. We will also be launching our brand new programme Stay in Tune Thursdays for older adults so join us to find out what it’s all about.

This event is part of the Age Against the Machine Festival of Creative Ageing in Lewisham.

Butterfly House
Open daily, 10am-5pm (last entry 4.30pm)

Experience hundreds of beautiful butterflies free-flying around you in a tropical indoor garden. Discover amazing facts about the life-cycle and behaviour of these fascinating creatures and spot different species from across the world.
