Transport for London - Weekend travel information - 21 and 22 September 2019

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 21 and 22 September, and the following week.

Most of the network will be open with services running as normal so you’ll be able to get wherever you need to go, but please check if any of the following affect you.
 
 
 
London Underground
 
            

 
Circle line
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, there will be no service on the entire line. This is due to track work. Use alternative Tube or local bus routes. 

 
 

 
District line
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, there will be no service between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road. This is due to track work. Use alternative Tube or local bus routes.

 
  

 
Hammersmith & City line
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, there will be no service between Moorgate and Hammersmith. This is due to track work. Use alternative Tube or local bus routes. 

 
 

 
Metropolitan line
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, there will be no service between Aldgate and Wembley Park. This is due to track work. Use alternative Tube or local bus routes. One single replacement bus will run at 00:20 on Monday 23 September from Baker Street to Uxbridge.

London Overground
 

 
Network Rail is carrying out work which will affect some London Overground services:

On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, there will be no service between Hackney Downs and Chingford. Then from Monday 23 until Thursday 26 September, there will be no service between Hackney Downs and Chingford after 22:30 each evening. Use the Victoria line for Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and Walthamstow Central. Rail replacement buses will run.

On Sunday 22 September, there will be no service between Gospel Oak and Stratford. For Caledonian Road & Barnsbury, use local bus route 274 to / from Camden Road or walk to / from Highbury & Islington. Rail replacement buses will run.
    
 
 
TfL Rail
 

 
On Sunday 22 September, there will be no service between Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4 until 08:00. This is due to track work. Use alternative Tube or local bus routes.

Buses and roads
 

 
Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Millbank - From 08:00 until 20:00 tomorrow, Friday 20 September, a group will gather in the Millbank area for a demonstration. Delays are expected.

Car Free Day - World Car Free Day takes place on Sunday 22 September with more than 20km of roads closed in and around the City of London, Southwark and Tower Hamlets. Roads will be closed from Moorgate in the north, Aldgate High Street in the east, Tooley Street in the south and Ludgate Hill in the west.

Additionally, London Bridge and Tower Bridge will be closed to general traffic and delays are expected.

For journeys across the Capital you are advised to avoid central London where possible and use alternative routes such as the A406 or the A205. Visit our travel advice page for more information.

Ealing - From 07:00 until 19:00 on Sunday 22 September, Leeland Terrace will be closed between Uxbridge Road, Coldershaw Road and Hatfield Road. Adjoining residential streets south of Leeland Terrace will also be closed. Also, Ealing Road will be closed between High Road and Montrose Crescent. This is for Car Free Day.

Stoke Newington - From 07:00 until 19:00 on Sunday 22 September, Stoke Newington Church Street will be closed between Albion Road and Stoke Newington High Street. This is for Car Free Day.

Regent Street - From 07:00 until 21:00 on Sunday 22 September, Regent Street will be closed between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus. New Burlington Street will also be closed. This is for Car Free Day.

Hyde Park - From 07:00 until 20:00 on Sunday 22 September, Connaught Street will be closed between Hyde Park Street and Connaught Square. Other road closures include Portsea Place, Connaught Place, Kendal Street between Connaught Street and Porchester Place, Porchester Place between Kendal Street and Connaught Street, Albion Street, Albion Mews, Albion Place and Archery Close. This is for Car Free Day.

Clerkenwell - From 11:00 until 16:00 on Sunday 22 September, St John Street will be closed between Clerkenwell Road and Charterhouse Street. This is for Car Free Day.

Chalk Farm - From 12:00 until 18:00 on Sunday 22 September, Provost Road will be closed. This is for Car Free Day.

Walthamstow - From 07:00 until 19:00 on Sunday 22 September, Hoe Street will be closed at the junction of Forest Road and Lea Bridge Road. This is for Car Free Day.

A20 Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich - Until Saturday 28 September, there will be a series of overnight closures on the A20 in Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich between the M25 junction and the A205 Westhorne Avenue. Works will take place between 22:00 and 05:00 each night, except Sunday 22 September.

Until Saturday 21 September, the closure will affect westbound traffic only. From Monday 23 until Saturday 28 September, the closure will affect eastbound traffic only. Follow the official diversion via the M25 or A2 or plan an alternative route. Visit our status updates page for more information.

Santander Cycles are free across London on Car Free Day, Sunday 22 September. Use code CarFreeDay2019 in the Santander Cycles app for a free 24 hour access period including all 30 minute journeys.

The following docking stations will be out of service this weekend:
  • Pall Mall East, West End, Sackville Street, Mayfair - due to power outages
  • Walmer Road, Notting Hill - due to gas works
  • Macclesfield Road, St. Luke's - due to footway works
