Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Westminster Bridge - Until 05:00 on Saturday 9 November, Westminster Bridge will be closed to westbound traffic and Bridge Street will be closed in both directions. During these works, licensed taxis, buses and cyclists will continue to have access to the bridge westbound. Delays are expected on the approaches to Westminster Bridge, Parliament Square and the surrounding area.

Using Vauxhall Bridge and the Inner Ring Road south of the river may mean a quicker journey for trips across London. Disruption in and around Parliament Square can be a regular occurrence due to planned works, events or protests. Please consider alternatives to driving for local journeys if possible. Please visit our travel advice page for more information.

City of London - On Friday 6 September and Saturday 7 September, there will be various road closures along Cheapside, Cannon Street and New Change within the City of London. This is due to a procession. Delays are expected.

Holborn - From 08:00 on Saturday 7 until 17:00 on Sunday 8 September, High Holborn will be closed westbound between Procter Street and Kingsway. This is due to resurfacing works by Camden Council.

Westminster - From 12:00 until 15:00 on Saturday 7 September, a group will gather at Lincoln's Inn Fields and march to Whitehall for a demonstration. Delays are expected.

Wembley Stadium - From 16:00 until 22:00 on Saturday 7 September, Wembley Stadium will host the European Qualifiers football match between England and Bulgaria, with kick off at 17:00. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected in the Wembley area before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected include the A406, A1, A40 Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.

Whitehall - From 09:00 until 12:00 on Sunday 8 September, Whitehall will be closed at the junction of Parliament Square and Horse Guards Avenue. This is for a wreath laying service.

Westminster - On Tuesday 10 September, a group will gather at Marble Arch between 09:00 and 12:00. They will then march from Great Cumberland Place to Richmond Terrace via Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street and Whitehall. The police will have short traffic holds and road closures in place along the route and its approaches.

Bayswater - On Tuesday 10 September, a group will gather in Hyde Park at 14:00. At 15:30, they will march to Holland Park Avenue (near Holland Park station) via North Carriage Drive and Bayswater Road. North Carriage Drive will be closed from 14:30, and there will be westbound closures and traffic holds on the rest of the route and its approaches. Short traffic holds will be in place on the Cycle Super Highway.

A40 at Acton - Today, Thursday 5 September, the A40 will be reduced to one lane westbound near Savoy Circus. This is to prepare for the next stage of works to build walking and cycling improvements between Acton and Wood Lane.

Until 23:59 on Sunday 22 September, Bloemfontein Road will be closed at the junction of the A40 and bus route 283 to Hammersmith will be on diversion. Drivers should expect delays while travelling westbound during afternoon peak periods (weekdays 14:00 to 18:00). One of the best ways to make journeys to and from the area will be by Tube. For more information, visit our travel advice page.

Check whether your bus is affected.
