Weekend travel information   Dear Mr Grantham, If you are out and about this weekend, please note that there are planned closures taking place on certain parts of the network.  Like many businesses around the country, we are experiencing the effects of the pandemic with a number of staff ill due to Covid or self isolating. While we continue to do all we can to keep operating a normal service, we advise everyone to check our website and the TfL Go app before they travel, as services may be affected at short notice by staff absences.  You must wear face coverings for the duration of your journey or risk being fined, unless you are exempt.  Additionally, face coverings should be worn by everyone in taxi and private hire vehicles for the duration of their journey. TfL’s 500 uniformed enforcement officers and TfL's police partners will be out across the transport network ensuring that customers comply with the Government regulation. Anybody who does not comply may be refused entry, directed to leave the network or face a fine.

Travel at quieter times Our TfL Go app will help you plan your journey and show you the quieter times to travel. It also shows how busy Tube stations are throughout the day. The quieter times for the Tube and rail are: Between 08:45 and 16:30 and after 18:45 on weekdays Before noon and after 18:45 on weekends The quieter times for buses are: Between 08:30 and 15:00 and after 17:30 on weekdays Before 11:30 and after 17:30 on weekends   Our network is safe Wherever you're going, our network is safe to use.  TfL's enhanced cleaning regime continues to make the network cleaner than ever, with more than 1,100 hand sanitisers installed across the network and at least 200 UV light devices continually sanitising escalator handrails. Our services are well ventilated with fresh air, and we ask that you please continue to keep windows open on buses.  Please keep washing or sanitising your hands to help everyone stay safe. London Underground

Tube strike There is planned strike action every Friday and Saturday night between 20:30 and 04:29 the following morning until Sunday 19 June. If these strikes go ahead, normal services are expected on the Victoria line, while we expect the Central line to run a regular service through central London, with at least two trains per hour. Customers using Victoria or Central line services on Friday and Saturday nights between 19:00 and 06:00 the following morning are advised to check before they travel. Customers can use the TfL Go app to check when the next services will be. All other Tube lines will run their normal daytime services during these strikes, with the last Tubes in central London leaving around 01:00 and starting again at 05:30. Night Overground services between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate will not be affected by this action, though there will be no Night Overground service this Friday night (21 January)/Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning due to engineering work on the track. Northern line Until mid-May 2022 No service between Kennington and Moorgate The Northern line will be closed between Kennington and Moorgate until mid-May 2022. This is due to work we are doing to substantially improve the capacity at Bank station. During this time, many stations and lines in central London will be much busier and you may have to make changes to the way you travel. Visit our website for more information.

Piccadilly line Until spring 2022 Trains will not stop at South Kensington The Circle and District lines will continue to stop and the station will remain open.  Find out more  information and travel advice.

London Overground

Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 January No service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross/New Cross Gate Use alternative Tube, London Overground services or the rail replacement bus service. No service between New Cross Gate and West Croydon /Crystal Palace Use Southern railway services. No service between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction A rail replacement bus service will run. No Night Overground service between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate on Friday night/Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning Use local Night bus route N277 between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction, and any Night Bus or 24-hour bus service elsewhere. Sunday 23 January  No service between Richmond and Camden Road until 11:00 Use alternative Tube services and the rail replacement bus service. No service between Shepherd's Bush and Willesden Junction until 11:00 Use local bus routes 220 or 228. No service between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town, Cheshunt and Chingford until 10:15  Use alternative Tube services, local bus routes or the rail replacement bus services. Alternatively, use Greater Anglia services between Liverpool Street and Cheshunt. Monday 24 until Thursday 27 January No southbound service between Sydenham and West Croydon after 23:30 each night Use local bus routes or the rail replacement bus service.  No service between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/Cheshunt after 22:45 each night Use alternative Tube services, local bus routes or the rail replacement bus services. Alternatively, use Greater Anglia services between Liverpool Street and Cheshunt.

TfL Rail

Sunday 23 January No service, or Heathrow Express, between Paddington and Heathrow T5 until 06:30, and between Paddington and Ealing Broadway until 08:00 Use alternative Tube services or local bus routes. Reduced service between Paddington and Hayes & Harlington after 08:00 Trains will not call at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing. Use local buses to continue your journey.

Rivers

Ongoing works on the Woolwich Ferry No service on the Woolwich Ferry On foot, use the Woolwich Foot Tunnel or the DLR service between King George V and Woolwich Arsenal. For drivers, use alternative river crossings at Dartford, Blackwall and Rotherhithe.

Buses and roads

Bus journeys will be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Planned road works Westminster Bridge Until late January 2022, Westminster Bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction for all traffic. This is while we carry out essential works to improve the security of the bridge for those walking and cycling.  While the works take place, delays across Westminster Bridge are likely and roads in the surrounding area are expected to be busy. Bexley/Greenwich Until Saturday 5 February, there will be a series of overnight directional closures of the A2 between Dartford Heath, junction with the M25 and Blackwall, junction with the A207 whilst we carry out essential maintenance. Work will take place between 22:00 and 05:00, Mondays to Fridays only, and will not affect access to the Blackwall Tunnel. You are advised to leave more time for your journey and follow the signed diversions. For the latest information on how roads are operating in your area, check before you travel. A40 Westway Until summer 2022, there will be a series of overnight lane closures and weekend directional closures on the A40 Westway while we carry out essential maintenance work.
