Film fans take a trip inside Somerset House for Behind the Screen and bring the world of cinema into sharp focus with special events and guests providing unique insights into the Film4 Summer Screen programme.

This year’s events include talks from Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, the director of our closing Premiere Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Helen Trompeteler, curator from the National Portrait Gallery presenting Audrey Hepburn as the gamine style icon, and 45 Yearsdirector Andrew Haigh discussing his film inspirations. Plus a new collaboration withFrightFest, who have handpicked a selection of cutting-edge short horror films drawn from the festival's past and future.
Somerset House Film Tours are back by popular demand, exploring the historic site which has provided the location for many special cinematic scenes. Daytime events include an Anime Studio Day giving young creatives the chance to discover all things Japanese animation, and family activities comprising Dances with Werewolves and free screenings of Where the Wild Things Are.

To accompany the free family matinee screening ofWhere the Wild Things Are, this workshop celebrates all things hairy and scary, where attendees can learn the werewolf dance and create a monster spectacular with storyteller Rosie Tell Tales. If you’ve come without a special costume, join our making workshop to whip something up to fool even Little Red Riding Hood.

Doors open for evening events at 18.30 for a complimentary drink in the Behind the Screen bar, accessed from the River Terrace entrance via Waterloo Bridge. Talks start at 19.00 and last approximately one hour.
Behind the Screen tickets give access to Behind the Screen events only. Tickets for film screenings must be purchased separately. In conjunction with a purchased ticket to Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House, Behind the Screen tickets give access to a reserved space in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court for the main film.
