Britain's Martian sky: Hurricane Ophelia creates ghostly phenomenon in the skies as Saharan dust is carried on 80mph winds across the Atlantic

Britain was cast in an eerie Martian gloom as Saharan dust whipped across the Atlantic by Hurricane Ophelia shrouded the sun turning skies over the nation red.
The storm is believed to have picked up dust from North Africa and debris from forest fires in Spain and Portugal as it travelled towards the UK.
Skies over London have been covered in a murky orange haze as the desert dust mixes with clouds, offering Londoners a stark contrast to the grey that usually greets them at this time of year.
