ENGINEERING THE WORLD: OVE ARUP AND THE PHILOSOPHY OF TOTAL DESIGN

This is the first ever retrospective of Ove Arup (1895-1988), the most influential engineer of the 20th century and the pioneer of a multidisciplinary approach to design that has defined the way engineering is understood and practiced today. The exhibition will span 100 years of engineering and architectural design including well known projects such as Sydney Opera House, Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Penguin Pool at London Zoo, alongside unseen archive materials and recent projects by Arup. Read more and book

A World of Fragile Parts is a special project for the Applied Arts Pavilion that has been jointly developed as part of a collaboration between La Biennale di Venezia and the V&A. The Jameel Prize is an international award for contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic tradition. Its aim is to explore the relationship between Islamic traditions of art, craft and design and contemporary work as part of a wider debate about Islamic culture and its role today. Eleven artists and designers have been shortlisted for this year’s prize, which is awarded every two years. The winner will be announced on 7 June 2016. Read more
