Museum of London Docklands - Roman Dead events now on sale

Roman Dead events
Roman Dead, our forthcoming exhibition, uses ancient grave goods and objects, including an extremely rare sarcophagus to explore rituals and beliefs in Roman London.

Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of events taking place throughout the exhibition. Reveal the true story of Roman Londoners in our Close to the Bone workshop, join us for a Londinium mortuum cemetery walk or get the little ones involved with a range of free themed activities this May half term.

Join Dr. Rebecca Redfern, Curator of Human Osteology for a hands-on archaeological workshop, as she breathes life into the mysteries on display in Roman Dead, using advanced techniques such as 3D facial reconstruction.

This series of walking tours explores the Roman cemeteries which bordered the ancient city of Londinium. Discover more about how citizens lived – and died – and the role that cemeteries played in their passage to the afterlife in these informative sessions.
Each walk will cover a corner of Londinium, and highlight the unique variations between each part of the city.

Dr. Rebecca Redfern chairs a discussion between some of the country’s pre-eminent archaeologists. The group will discuss the traditions and rites surrounding death during Roman times, before taking audience questions.

Guests will also be granted access to a private evening viewing of Roman Dead, from 8-9pm.

A panel of experts will take you behind the scenes of the logistic challenge that is involved in displaying a large, precious and extremely fragile item within a museum.
