Imperial War Museums - ANNOUNCEMENT: A New Season at IWM London
Why do some people try to erase or exploit culture, while others risk everything to protect, celebrate and rebuild it?
We are excited to announce a new series of exhibitions and events coming to IWM London.
Culture Under Attack will examine the relationship between culture and conflict. It will look at how culture is destroyed and exploited, and the lengths people go to when ensuring it is maintained, even in the most dire circumstance.
From The Troubles in Northern Ireland to the Taliban in Afghanistan, three exhibitions will each discuss a range of different cultures, countries and regimes from the 1930s up to the present day.
Alongside our free exhibitions, you can also attend a series of talks, concerts and discussions, both within the museum and at festivals across the UK.
IWM is working with Historic England to examine why buildings, places, art and artefacts throughout history have been attacked and exploited, and also tell the stories of those who sought to save them.
Art in Exile
This exhibition tells the story of how British museums and galleries protected their collections during the Second World War. Find out which works were saved and which were not, and the reasons why.
Across history it has not just been buildings and works of art under threat. Rebel Sounds will reveal how music was used to resist, rebel and speak out against war and oppression, from 1930's Germany to present day Mali.
