TfL email update

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 30 November and 1 December, and the following week.

Most of the network will be open with services running as normal so you’ll be able to get wherever you need to go, but please check if any of the following affect you.

You can plan your journey using Journey Planner and our travel tools. Find out more about paying for your travel  on our website.

South Western Railway strike

From Monday 2 December until Wednesday 1 January 2020 (except 12, 25 and 26 December) there is a strike planned on South Western Railway routes. There will be a reduced service that will affect some London Underground lines as more people will need to use them.

Stations and trains will be much busier than normal on the Richmond and Wimbledon branches of the District line, and also on the Northern line between Kennington and Morden. Clapham Junction, Richmond, Vauxhall, Waterloo and Wimbledon stations will also be extremely busy, with queuing systems to enter these stations.

Allow more time for your journey and consider re-timing your journey to avoid peak hours or using alternative travel options.

Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Rotherhithe Tunnel - From Monday 2 December, drivers of prohibited vehicles could receive a fine for each journey made through Rotherhithe Tunnel. Vehicles more than two metres (6'6") wide, two metres high or goods vehicles that weigh more than two tonnes (maximum gross weight) are not permitted. This is to ensure safety and reduce risk of collisions.

Drivers restricted from using the tunnel should use Tower Bridge or Blackwall Tunnel, both of which are outside of the Congestion Charge or ULEZ zones.

A200 near Deptford Church Street - Until summer 2020, Cycleway 4 works are taking place near the junction of the A200 Creek Road and Deptford Church Street for the next stage of Cycleway 4. Drivers should expect delays while travelling on the A200 Creek Road, Tooley Street and Jamaica Road.

Expect delays approaching Rotherhithe roundabout from the A101 Rotherhithe Tunnel and from the A200 Lower Road. Plan ahead and leave more time for your journey. If possible, consider other routes for journeys across London, and re-time local delivery and servicing trips to outside peak periods. Visit our Cycleway 4 travel advice page for updates.

Holloway Road - From 08:00 until 18:00 on Saturday 30 November, Holloway Road will have a contraflow in place at the junction of Landseer Road. Left and right turns are banned from Holloway Road to Landseer Road. This is due to Thames Water works.

Bishopsgate - From 22:00 on Saturday 30 November until 06:00 on Monday 2 December, Bishopsgate will be closed northbound between Artillery Lane and New Street. Temporary traffic signals will also be in place. This is due to a crane operation.

Brixton - From 10:00 until 15:00 on Tuesday 3 December, Brixton Hill will be restricted to a single lane. This is due to Thames Water works.

Croydon - From Tuesday 3 until Thursday 5 December, from 19:00 until 05:00 every night, Purley Way will have a lane restriction southbound approaching the junction of Fairmead Road. This is due to Thames Water works.

Check whether your bus is affected.
