Borough Market - Christmas inspiration from Borough Market

Borough Market under tier 3 restrictions

With London moving into tier 3 of local coronavirus restrictions, Borough Market remains open with social distancing measures in place. From 16th December, stalls in The Borough Market Kitchen, as well as our restaurants, cafes and pubs, are restricted to selling takeway food and drink. To help maximise the time in which visitors can complete their Christmas shopping in a safe, secure environment, we are staying open until 9pm on Thursday and Friday.

Christmas inspiration in the Festive Kitchen

The final week of our brilliant Festive Kitchen programme of livestreamed cookalongs, masterclasses and conversations, hosted by Edd Kimber, will see a whole host of Borough Market stallholders showing off their Christmas cookery skills: Matt Jones of Bread Ahead will be cooking up mince pies and amaretti biscuits, Mark Janel of Shuk will be making the stall’s famous babka (with a festive twist), Darren Brown of Shellseekers will be whipping up a surf ’n’ turf, Nick Fitzgerald of Tacos Padre will be guiding us around seasonal Mexican staples, and Zoe Roberts of Butternut will be creating festive breakfast treats. Other guests in the event’s action-packed final days include Calum Franklin, Ryan Riley, Ravneet Gill, Benjamina Ebuehi, Ed Smith and the Very Reverend Andrew Nunn, Dean of Southwark.

You can watch the entire programme LIVE on our Facebook page. Not sure what you pick? Check our the full programme.

McLaren’s Christmas Puddings

McLaren’s Christmas Puddings are wrapped and presented as beautifully as they are made—making them wonderful gifts, as well as wholly delicious to eat. The fruit is macerated for two days in brandy, Guinness and citrus zest, then steamed for eight hours and left to mature for several months. The result is a beautifully light pud that’s suitable for vegetarians, thanks to the use of butter instead of suet.

Nut Farms

Starting as a hobby, Nut Farms’ founder Edward Lade planted walnut trees with his father over 40 years ago. Now with access to acres of nuts, Edward focuses on harvesting Kentish cobnuts and walnuts. The cobnut season is short, usually from August to October, but these beautiful fresh nuts can last until Christmas if stored correctly. Edward’s delicious cold pressed nut oils are also very special and make for a beautiful Christmas gift.
