Borough Market - The heat is on in the Festive Kitchen

The heat is on in the Festive Kitchen

Put the kettle on, settle down somewhere comfortable and fire up Facebook: Borough Market’s Festive Kitchen extravaganza of livestreamed cookery and food chat kicks off today under the expert stewardship of Angela Clutton.
Among the highlights this week will be Ben Ebbrell’s caramelised onion and squash mac ’n’ cheese cookalong on Thursday at 6:30pm. For the ultimate combination of convenience and quality, there’s still just enough time to order a Borough Market recipe produce box containing everything you need to join in (plus a little more), sourced directly from our traders. If you live in London, order by 1pm on Thursday and we'll have it delivered direct to your door.

Next Thursday, it’s Olia Hercules’s turn: she’ll be making varenyky dumplings – a Ukrainian Christmas speciality – filled with kraut, mushrooms and chestnuts. Her recipe produce box is also available to order now.
For all the Festive Kitchen cookalongs, the recipes are readily available on our site and the ingredients can be bought directly from our traders or, in many cases, from Borough Market Online. And whisper it: you don’t even have to cook anything if you don’t want to. Just register online to receive the broadcast link and watch the fun unfold.

Northfield Farm

The McCourt family’s Northfield Farm, which straddles the Rutland-Leicestershire border, is a haven for rare and traditional British livestock breeds. Its Borough Market stall is a paragon of traditional butchery skills. Dom McCourt will be in the Festive Kitchen at 1pm today showing off some of that expertise.

Neal’s Yard Dairy

Since 1979, Neal’s Yard Dairy has been exerting a profound and hugely positive influence upon British and Irish farmhouse cheesemaking. The company’s head buyer and peerless cheese expert Bronwen Percival will be in the Festive Kitchen on Thursday at 11:30am, sharing her thoughts on Christmas cheese.

Brindisa: Spain on a plate

Visit Borough Market Online to buy a gorgeous hamper containing some of Spain’s very finest food and drink – from Senorio Iberico hand-carved ham to Canarejal raw ewe’s milk cheese to Loxarel white wine – then join us on Zoom on 10th December at 6:30pm to watch as James Robinson from Brindisa and host Celia Brooks take us on an enlightening one-hour tasting tour of the contents.

Together at Christmas

Better Bankside’s Together at Christmas campaign is aiming to raise £7,500 to send gifts of good food from Borough Market’s traders to homeless or vulnerable people in the Bankside neighbourhood. The local charities that will help distribute these edible gift parcels include St Mungo’s, Robes Project, Look Ahead, Lucy Brown House, Blackfriars Settlement and Hopton Street Almshouses. Donate now.
