BBC Shows and Tours - Join Maureen Lipman for an evening of laughter and entertainment

Maureen Lipman

Join Maureen Lipman for an evening of musings, monologues and amusing anecdotes about her life and popular culture.

After a career that has encompassed thirty odd – sometimes very odd – West End plays, together with a vast range of television, radio, films, books, magazine articles and BT ads, the new Queen of Coronation Street will be entertaining the audience in the BBC Radio Theatre on the evening of Friday 18 February 2022 with material for two new Radio 4 comedy programmes to be transmitted on Wednesday 16 and 23 March.

The format follows a monologue tradition that builds on the foundations established by artists such as Ruth Draper and Joyce Grenfell. Maureen brings her own particular brand of incisive humour and witty comments to the genre. It begins with a poem reflecting on the past two years we’ve lived through. Characters we meet will include a far too chatty woman on a commuter train and a woman who is a whizz at crosswords. And Hester from the Home Counties makes a second appearance.

For this second series Maureen will be joined by the actor, Oliver Cotton. Together they give life and opinions to various animals including geese, salmon and seagulls. They also give their take on an Awards ceremony. These are the ‘Daftas’.

Maureen loves poems, jokes, sketches and making fun of the world we live in. This will be another evening of laughter and entertainment.
