Museum of Brands - What to do this Bank Holiday Weekend 🌞

Jubilation: 200 Years of Royal Souvenirs

Our new temporary display ‘Jubilation: 200 years of Royal Souvenirs’ opened on 21 May.  The display not only highlights traditional souvenirs from the past, but also celebrates the weird and wonderful items that have been produced to commemorate our kings and queens.  Brands across the country including Heinz, Walkers, M&S and Cadbury are unveiling their limited-edition packaging which provides a real insight into the mood of 2022 and captures consumer sentiment about the Royal family.

What we’re finding so far this year is that a lot of the Platinum Jubilee packaging has a subdued, subtle and sophisticated feel to it in contrast to 2012 when Jubilee celebrations tied in with the London 2012 Olympics and we saw bright colours and the Union Jack flag everywhere!

The new display introduces the extensive collection of royal souvenirs that are displayed throughout the Time Tunnel and is supplemented by adult and family trails, designed to help guide visitors through the collection to the royal displays. We are also running Jubilee Talks throughout June and Object Handling Sessions over the Bank Holiday weekend where visitors can look more closely at some commemorative Jubilee items from the past.

It's "amazing how much you forget from certain periods of your life. It was really special to share memories with my daughter of the brands and trends that I experienced when I was her age."  Trip Advisor Review, May 2022

"This little spot was the surprise highlight of our London trip... A must for any design enthusiast, a treasure trove for anyone working on a vintage-related design project, and a fascinating stroll through history and nostalgia for anyone else
