JULY AT SOMERSET HOUSE

It’s the hottest month of the year at Somerset House, in every sense of the word. As temperatures soar and the sun shines, the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court is the perfect place to chill, either splashing about in the fountains, enjoying a well earned post-work drink, or taking in one of our must-see summer events.
July also signifies Somerset House Summer Series with American Express with 11 nights of essential open-air gigs that bring a unique festival atmosphere to the heart of London. Five nights are already sold out, so don't miss out.
Our major summer exhibition Get Up, Stand Up Now celebrates the past 50 years of Black creativity in Britain and beyond (★★★★★ Unmissable - Evening Standard), and there's also Kaleidoscope: Immigration in Modern Britain in the Terrace Rooms.
Tickets for this year's Film4 Summer Screen are also selling fast. There's something for everybody across the two weeks in August, including two UK premieres with special guest introductions plus double bill nights.

Fresh from blistering performances at Glastonbury, Sons of Kemet are joined by special guests Sampa the Great and Grime legend D Double E, while The Good, The Bad & The Queen bring their defiant, large scale anthems. Jacob Banks and special guest Ray BLK deliver contemporary R&B with spellbinding voices, Aussie legends Cut Copy light up the courtyard with masterful upbeat electronica, Soulection bring the feelgood vibes for a big Saturday night and we've a barnstorming finale from the reformed Gossip.

Get Up, Stand Up Now celebrates the immense impact and influence of fifty years of Black creativity in Britain and beyond. Curated by artist Zak OvΓ©, the exhibition is inspired by the work and legacy of his trailblazing father Horace OvΓ© and takes visitors on a creative journey through artworks that reflect and reframe the Black experience. Watch our film for a close look at the exhibition's key themes and listen to our dedicated five-part podcast series.

In this associated event, which responds to the themes of the exhibition and is curated by June Givanni (Pan African Film Archive), we'll be screening Le Bohemian Noir et la Renaissance de L’Afrique, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Gaylene Gould (BFI Head of Cinema and Events) with director Amani Naphtali, producer Nana Bempah and choreographer Ivan Blackstock.

Curated by writer/broadcaster Ekow Eshun and Creative Director Darrell VydelingumKaleidoscope takes individual and often deeply personal experiences to celebrate the contribution of immigrant communities to everyday life in Britain through the work of ten artists working with still and moving image.
