Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Lords Cricket Ground – From 08:30 until 20:30 tomorrow, Friday 5 July, Lords Cricket Ground will be hosting the Cricket World Cup between Pakistan & Bangladesh. Play begins at 10:30. Large crowds and increased traffic flows are expected within the area.

Hyde Park area - From 11:00 on Friday 5, Saturday 6, Sunday 7, Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July, South Carriage Drive and West Carriage Drive will be closed. This is due to concerts taking place in Hyde Park. From 21:00 to 23:45 at the end of each of the concerts, Park Lane between Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner and the eastbound slip road from Knightsbridge to Hyde Park corner will be closed. This is to help with crowd control, as large crowds are expected before and after the concerts. The roads will reopen once it is safe to do so. Expect large crowds in the area.

Southwark - From 5 July 2019 until April 2020, construction work will begin to create a continuous segregated cycle route between Tower Bridge and Greenwich. Work will start on the first section through Tooley Street, along Jamaica Road and to Rotherhithe roundabout.

Tooley Street and Jamaica Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Expect delays on these roads, as well as when approaching Rotherhithe roundabout from the A101 Rotherhithe Tunnel and from Lower Road. Buses in the area will maintain their routes, but there may be delays on the following routes – 47, 188, 199, 343, 381, C10, P12, N199 and N381.

Find more information on our Cycleways 4 travel advice page.

Westminster - From 06:00 until 10:30 on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July, there will be various road closures in the Westminster area, from Portland Place in the north, Strand and Shaftesbury Avenue in the east, Whitehall in the south, and Piccadilly and Oxford Street in the west. Closures will also be in place in the Soho area throughout the day. Traffic disruption is likely to be experienced on the A501 to the north, Park Lane and the A4 to the west and on Victoria Embankment and Waterloo Bridge to the south. This is due to a parade.

Wembley Stadium – From 17:00 until 23:00 on Saturday 6 July, Wembley Stadium will be hosting a concert. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected in the Wembley area before and after the concert. Roads likely to be affected include the A406, A1, A40, Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.

Waterloo Bridge - From 22:00 until 06:00 on each day from Sunday 7 until Wednesday 10 July, Waterloo Bridge will be closed in both directions. This is due to maintenance works by Westminster Council.

Check whether your bus is affected.
