We're delighted to let you know about a triply exciting arrival at London Zoo; three Critically Endangered Sumatran tiger cubs!
Keeper Kathryn Sanders confirmed that all three cubs are making steady progress, and are being well looked after by parents Gaysha and Asim. We’ve seen a key milestone already, with the cubs feeding and taking their first tentative steps. The trio will also soon begin to open their eyes, which are always closed for the first few weeks after the birth.
While Gaysha has been spotted occasionally venturing outdoors alone to stretch her legs, the ten-day old cubs will likely remain mostly tucked away in the family’s behind-the-scenes purpose-built cubbing den in Tiger Territory for the next few weeks.
Have a look at the footage from our hidden ‘cubcam’ to see Gaysha giving birth and cleaning the newborns, with dad Asim gently approaching to meet his new family.
