Weekend travel information

If you are out and about over the weekend, there are lots of public transport options. 

You can also find details of our latest safer travel guidance on our website.

In this hot weather, please carry water with you and ask for a seat if you feel unwell.

The information in this email could possibly change, so please check before you travel or use the TfL Go app to plan your journey. 
 

National Rail

 

No Southern rail or Gatwick Express services from Victoria

During Network Rail re-signalling work, there will be no Southern rail or Gatwick Express services to/from Victoria on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July.

For East Croydon and stations between Gatwick Airport and Brighton, use Thameslink services from Blackfriars. Use Southern rail services from London Bridge for other destinations. Thameslink and Southern tickets will be accepted on the Tube between Victoria and Blackfriars/London Bridge/Balham.

For local journeys a replacement bus service will be running. Southeastern services are not affected by these works.

London Underground

 

Night Tube strikes — until Sunday 4 December

The planned strike action on Friday and Saturday nights on the Central, Jubilee and Victoria lines between 20:30 and 04:29 the following morning, has been extended until Sunday 4 December and will now also impact the Northern line.

While Night Tube services are still running regularly, if you are using these lines on a Friday or Saturday between 19:00 and 06:00 the next morning, you should check before you travel.

Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July

No service between Aldgate and Edgware Road (via Victoria)

Use alternative Tube services or local bus routes.

     

District line

Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July

No service between Embankment and Upminster

Use alternative Tube, rail, local buses or rail replacement bus services.

     

Hammersmith & City line

Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July

No service on the entire line

Use alternative Tube, rail, local or rail replacement bus services.

London Overground

Sunday 17 July

No service between Romford and Upminster

Use local bus routes 165, 248 or 370.

Monday 18 to Thursday 21 July

No service between Sydenham and West Croydon after 22:15 each night

Use local buses, Southern rail or the rail replacement bus service.

Elizabeth line

Sunday 17 July

No westbound service from Maidenhead to Reading until 09:30

Rail replacement buses will run.

Reduced service between Liverpool Street and Gidea Park from 11:30 until 22:30

Trains will run every 15 minutes.

Reduced service between Paddington and Hayes and Harlington/Heathrow

Trains will not call at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing. Use alternative Tube services or local bus routes.

Until late 2022

There will be no service on Sundays between Paddington and Abbey Wood until late 2022.

Buses and roads

 

Bus journeys will be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

 

Friday 15 until Sunday 17 July

Finsbury Park, Wireless Festival

The Wireless Festival will take place from 11:00 to 23:30 in Finsbury Park. Seven Sisters Road and surrounding roads will be closed each evening for the event. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

Saturday 16 July

Belgian Cenotaph Parade, central London

The parade will take place from 08:00 to 13:00. Whitehall, King Charles Street, Parliament Street, Horseguards Road, Birdcage Walk, Horseguards Avenue, Whitehall Court, Spur Road, Bridge Street will be closed for this event.

UEFAs Women's Euros, Brentford Stadium

The football match between Denmark and Spain will take place from 18:00 to 23:59. Kick off is at 20:00.

Monday 18 July until Saturday 13 August

Overnight directional closures on the A2 and A102 

Works will take place between the Darenth Interchange and the junction with Blackwall Lane for essential maintenance.

Closures will take place between 21:00 and 05:00 on Monday to Friday nights only, with signed diversion routes in place.
  • 21:00 Monday 18 July – 05:00 Saturday 23 July: London-bound closed between the Darenth Interchange and the junction with Westhorne Avenue.
  • 21:00 Monday 25 July – 05:00 Saturday 30 July: London-bound closed between the junction with Westhorne Avenue and the junction with Blackwall Lane.
  • 21:00 Monday 1 August – 05:00 Saturday 6 August: Kent-bound closed between the junction with Blackwall Lane and the junction with Westhorne Avenue
  • 21:00 Monday 8 August – 05:00 Saturday 13 August: Kent-bound closed between the junction with Westhorne Avenue and the Darenth Interchange

Tuesday 19 July

Standard Chartered Great City Race, City of London

The event will take place from 18:00 to 23:59. Road closures will be in place, use alternative routes.

Friday 22 July until Tuesday 2 August

A205 Mortlake Road

There will be a series of full road closures on sections of the A205 Mortlake Road between Kew Road and Clifford Avenue. Works will take place between 09:30 to 15:30 on Mondays to Fridays and from 07:30 to 19:30 on the weekend. These are for essential maintenance of our trees and must take place during the day for safety reasons. You are advised to plan ahead, leave more time for your journey and follow the signed diversions.

Until mid-July

A41 Edgware Way

Until mid-July, we will be undertaking repair works on the A41 Edgware Way bridge over the M1, next to Apex Corner.

This will involve closures in alternating directions on the A41 and lane closures on the M1. Buses in the area will be affected with delays, bus stop closures and some routes on diversion. Plan ahead and leave more time for your journey.

Until mid-August

Gas mains replacement works

Until mid-August, there will only be one lane open in each direction on Commercial Road between Henriques Street and Back Church Lane. There will also be no access to Christian Street or Batty Street from Commercial Road; residents can gain access from Fairclough Street. This is while Cadent Gas carries out essential gas mains replacement work.

Delays are expected and you are advised to plan ahead, leave more time for your journey and use alternative routes where possible. Please check status updates for the latest information on how roads are operating in your area.
