Family Art Fun
Take part in special events and weekend family fun throughout the Museum this month.

All events are free and drop-in and recommended for ages 3+ (unless stated otherwise)

The Breadcrumb Trail 
Sunday 30 April

Join a special tour around the Museum galleries in this promenade performance. This theatrical journey will surprise and delight adults and families alike, as you discover special performances inspired by European folk tales hidden in amongst the Museum collections. 

Recommended for ages 8+

May Day: Masquerade Masks
Monday 1 May

Be inspired by the Europe 1600–1815 galleries, including a painting of an incredible procession, The Ommegang. See the amazing colours, curious costumes and create your own mask design.

Japanese Children’s Day weekend activities
Saturday 6 May: 11.00, 13.00 & 15.00 (duration 30 min)
Sunday 7 May: 10.30 – 17.00

Join us for a weekend of themed activities to mark Japanese Children’s Day. Take part in a new Pop-up Performance The Monkey and the Crab on Saturday, a heart-warming tale performed by You-Ri Yamanaka using traditional Japanese Kabuki movement and storytelling.* On Sunday create your own mon – a family crest – in Drop-in Design.

*This performance is also taking place on Saturday 13 May

Try our Curious Ceramics Sensory Back-Pack and explore the galleries for inspiration to design your own sensory artwork with textures and patterns you can find in the Museum.

Pick up a design brief and bring your creative ideas to life. Try a wide range of materials and techniques and be inspired by the Museum’s collections.

Join us for free making, performance and digital activities for all the family, inspired by The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains throughout May half-term.

Build, design and construct! Join the construction team this half-term in a series of workshops and activities inspired by the townscape of the Museum’s new installation, Place (Village) by Rachel Whiteread.
