Edge of Sound: Beyond Finlandia
Sonority abounds as the Finnish folk group Värttinä and BBC Concert Orchestra celebrate the sounds and creative spirit of Finland. Värttinä will perform their intoxicating music in solo sets and in collaboration with the orchestra. The programme also features orchestral performances of music by Sibelius including his rousing call for national freedom, Finlandia, and music by Magnus Lindberg and Einojuhani Rautavaara. The musicians are joined by conductor Charles Hazlewood while broadcasters Fiona Talkington and Tom Ravenscroft compere proceedings.
