Kew Gardens - Experience the greatest glasshouse in the world this May

Temperate House - doors open 5 May
There’s just over a week to go until the re-opening of the Temperate House and we hope you are as excited as we are. Our greatest glasshouse houses an internationally important collection of temperate plants, including some of the world’s rarest and most threatened.

Did you know?

  • 5,280 litres of paint were used during the restoration, enough to cover four football pitches
  • 180km of scaffolding was required, equivalent to the length of M25
  • The Temperate House contains 10,000 plants from 1,500 species
Discover the temperate zones

The glasshouse is divided into seven regions, where you can find over 1,500 plant species from five continents and sixteen islands. Some of these plants are rare, threatened or facing extinction in the wild. As you encounter these plants within the Temperate House, you’ll hear about the vital work our scientists are doing to protect and conserve them.
