Transport for London - this weekend, 30 and 31 March

TfL email update

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 30 and 31 March, and the following week.

Most of the network will be open with services running as normal so you’ll be able to get wherever you need to go, but please check if any of the following affect you.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

On Saturday 30 March at 17:30, a test event is taking place at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium in White Hart Lane.

Victoria line, London Overground, rail and bus services in the area are expected to be very busy before and after the event. If you are using London Overground services, you are advised to board at Liverpool Street as northbound London Overground services arriving at Seven Sisters station are expected to be full between 14:30 and 16:30. If you attempt to change from the Victoria line to the London Overground at Seven Sisters, you will need to exit the station and use an alternative entrance via Birstall Road to prevent overcrowding.

If you are travelling to the match there is a signed walking route to the stadium from Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and White Hart Lane stations. National Rail services serving Northumberland Park station will be closed due to planned engineering work.

All traffic, including bus routes 149, 192, 259, 318, 341, 349 and W3 will be diverted from Tottenham High Road as early as 15:00 and as late as 20:45.

After the event, managed queuing systems will be in place to re-enter local stations. During this time, bus stop D on Tottenham High Road outside Seven Sisters station will be suspended. Customers should use bus stop B for the 259 and 279 or bus stop C for all other routes.

Please allow for a longer journey. For more information, visit the Tottenham Hotspur website.

Buses and roads

To help improve air quality, an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be in place in central London from 8 April 2019, replacing the T-charge. Most vehicles will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or pay a daily charge to travel within the area of the ULEZ.

The daily charge runs from midnight to midnight, seven days a week, every day of the year, within the same area as the current Congestion Charging Zone. Your vehicle may not meet the ULEZ standards even if it meets the current Low Emission Zone standards. The ULEZ charge will be in addition to the weekday Congestion Charge and the London-wide LEZ charge.

Check if your vehicle is compliant.

For more information, visit our ULEZ web page.

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, though buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

A40 at Acton - From 8 April until late 2019, the A40 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes for westbound traffic and the speed limit will be reduced from 40mph to 30mph for safety reasons. This is for works to build walking and cycling improvements between Acton and Wood Lane. Drivers should expect delays while travelling westbound, especially during afternoon peak periods (weekdays 14:00 to 18:00). Please consider retiming your journeys to outside afternoon peak periods. One of the best ways to make journeys to and from the area will be by the Tube. For more information, visit our Acton Wood Lane page.

Highbury Corner - From 20:00 on Friday 5 until 05:00 on Monday 8 April, A1 Upper Street will be closed to all traffic at Highbury Corner and the A1 Holloway Road will be southbound only while carriageway resurfacing works are completed. These works are to prepare for the switch to two-way traffic at Highbury Corner on the Easter bank holiday weekend. If you normally use the A1 to travel in to and out of central London, using the A5, A10 or A41 could mean a quicker journey during these works. For more information visit our Highbury Corner page.

Westminster - From 12:00 until 23:00 on Friday 29 March, there will be a demonstration at St Margaret Street by Old Palace Yard and College Green. Delays are expected.

Westminster - From 16:00 until 19:00 on Friday 29 March, up to 5,000 people will form up on Parliament Square for a demonstration. From 20:00 until 01:00 that night, a group will form up on Parliament Square for a second demonstration. Delays are expected.

Trafalgar Square - From 11:00 until 17:00 Saturday 30 March, a group will form up at Trafalgar Square for a demonstration. Delays are expected.

Cambridge Heath - From 12:00 until 14:00 on Saturday 30 March, a group will form up on Cambridge Heath Road at the junction of Roman Road. This junction will be blocked to traffic by the Metropolitan Police.

Vauxhall - From 08:30 until 16:30 on Sunday 31 March, Albert Embankment will be closed southbound and reduced to a single lane northbound. This is due to a crane operation.

Hounslow - From 11:00 until 18:30 on Sunday 31 March, there will be various road closures and traffic holds in the Hounslow area. From 11:00, a large group will form up on Hibernia Road. From 13:00, there will be a procession along Staines Road, Wellington Road North, Bath Road, Martindale Road, Staines Road and back to Hibernia Road. These roads will be closed and local buses will be diverted away from the route of the procession.

Wembley Stadium - From 13:30 until 18:30 on Sunday 31 March, Wembley Stadium will host the Checkatrade Trophy Final football match between Portsmouth and Sunderland, with kick off at 14:30. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected are the A406, A1, A40, Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.

Central London - From Sunday 31 March until late 2019, Cannon Street will be closed in both directions between King William Street and Queen Victoria Street. Traffic will be on diversion but delays are expected. Use alternative routes where possible. This is due to Cadent Gas main replacement works.

Marylebone - From 08:00 on Monday 1 until 17:00 on Friday 12 April, Baker Street will be closed between Dorset Street and Blandford Street. From 08:00 on Monday 1 April until 17:00 on Friday 10 May, Portman Mews south will be closed between Granville Place and Portman Street. From 17:00 on Monday 1 until 17:00 on Friday 12 April, Portman Street will be closed southbound between Portman Square and Granville Place. All traffic will be diverted around the closures. This is to complete works for the Baker Street two-way scheme.

Check whether your bus is affected.
