Transport for London - Weekend travel information - 11 and 12 May 2019

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 11 and 12 May, and the following week.

Most of the network will be open with services running as normal so you’ll be able to get wherever you need to go, but please check if any of the following affect you.

London Underground
  
Circle line
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May, there will be no service on the entire line. This is due to line modernisation work. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run.

District line
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May, there will be no service between South Kensington and East Ham. This is due to line modernisation work. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run.
 
Hammersmith & City line
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May, there will be no service between Baker Street and Barking. This is due to line modernisation work. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run.

Metropolitan line
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May, there will be no service between Aldgate and Baker Street. This is due to line modernisation work. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run.

London Overground

Until further notice (except during planned line closures), there will be a reduced service every day between Gospel Oak and Barking. This is due to a lack of available trains. Trains will run about every 30 minutes. Supplementary buses will also run.

On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May, trains will not stop at Whitechapel station. This is due to London Underground signalling work. Use local bus 205 to/from Shoreditch High Street or bus route D3 to/from Shadwell.

On Sunday 12 May, there will be no service between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace / West Croydon. This is due to Network Rail track work. Rail replacement buses will run.

On Tuesday 14 May, there will be no southbound service from Sydenham to West Croydon after 23:45. This is due to Network Rail track work. Use local buses via any reasonable route. 

DLR

On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May:
  • There will be no service between Westferry / Poplar and Island Gardens. This is due to KAD maintenance works. Rail replacement buses will run
  • Trains will not stop at Custom House. This is due to station works. Customers for the ExCeL Centre should use either Royal Victoria or Prince Regent stations

Rivers

Bankside Pier is closed for refurbishment until late May. MBNA Thames Clippers and TRS services will call at Blackfriars Pier instead of Bankside.

Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Baker Street - Until 17:00 on Monday 13 May, Baker Street will be closed northbound at the junction of Melcombe Street. Traffic will be diverted via Melcombe Street and Gloucester Place. There will also be a lane closure for southbound traffic on Park Road at the junction of Allsop Place. From 20:00 tomorrow, Friday 10 until 17:00 on Sunday 12 May, Portman Street will be closed between Oxford Street and Portman Square.

Trafalgar Square - From 12:00 until 16:00 today, Thursday 9 May, a group will form up at Trafalgar Square and march to Great College Street via Whitehall and Parliament Square as a procession. Delays are expected.

Westminster - From 11:30 until 17:00 on Saturday 11 May, there will be various road closures and short traffic holds throughout the Westminster area. Up to 5,000 people will form up on Portland Place and march to Whitehall via Richmond Terrace, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket and Trafalgar Square. Delays are expected.

Westminster - From 12:30 until 17:00 on Saturday 11 May, delays are expected in the Westminster area. From 13:00, a group will form up at Great Smith Street. From 14:00, they will march to Parliament Square for a rally via Victoria Street, Artillery Road, Horseferry Road, Millbank, Abingdon Street and St Margaret Street. The cycle lane on the south side of Parliament Square will be closed.

Wembley Stadium – From 14:00 until 20:30 on Saturday 11 May, Wembley Stadium will host the Vanarama National League Play-Off Final football match, with kick off at 15:00. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected in the Wembley area before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected include the A406, A1, A40, Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.

Clapham Common - From 19:30 on Saturday 11 May until 10:00 the following morning, Rookery Road will be closed. From 21:00 on Saturday 11 May until 01:30 the following morning, Cedars Road and Queenstown Road will be closed northbound. This is due to the Moonwalk charity event taking place overnight, starting in Clapham Common at 22:30. The last participant is expected to return at 12:00 on Sunday 12 May.

Strand - From 08:00 until 18:00 on Sunday 12 May, Lancaster Place will be closed northbound at the junction of Strand eastbound. This is due to resurfacing works.

Brompton Road- From 08:00 on Sunday 12 May until 30 November 2019, there will be lane restrictions on the A4 between Thurloe Place and Knightsbridge Green. One lane will be maintained in each direction at all times.

Brompton Road will also be closed southbound between Draycott Avenue and and the A4, with traffic diverted via Cromwell Road and Earl's Court Road. This is due to Cadent Gas works. Delays are expected. Check before you travel and use alternative routes where possible.

Westminster - From 11:00 until 17:00 on Sunday 12 May, delays are expected in the Westminster area. From 12:00, a large group will form up on Park Lane. At 12:30, they will march to Parliament Square via Piccadilly Circus, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium - From 13:00 until 18:00 on Sunday 12 May, Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium will host the Premier League football match between Tottenham and Everton, with kick off at 15:00. Large crowds and high traffic levels are expected before and after the game. Road closures in the Tottenham area will be in place from 13:00 to allow safe arrival of fans in the area. They will last until 18:00 at the earliest to allow safe travel for fans out of the stadium. Delays are expected for the duration of the match.

The following docking stations will be out of service this weekend:
  • Bancroft Road, Bethnal Green, due to power outages
  • Gloucester Road (North), Kensington, due to a road traffic accident
  • Stockwell Roundabout and Clapham Road & Lingham Street, Stockwell, due to power outages
  • Westbourne Park Road, Portobello, for resurfacing works
  • Dock Street, Wapping, part-suspended for gas works
  • Cardinal Place, Victoria, removed for building works
  • Portugal Street, Holborn, for building works
  • Whiteley's, Bayswater, for building works
