The Barking Made Winter Market - Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th December - Barking Riverside London

Shop local at the Barking Made Winter Market

The first ever Barking Made Winter Market comes to Barking Riverside on the 4th and 5th of December 2021 – kicking off the party season with some locally produced cheer.

Showcasing some of Barking’s best ‘makers’, visitors will get a chance to pick up a whole host of locally produced goods. Traders will include House of Loulee, who make African-inspired apparel and toys. There will also be stalls from Empress Juicery, who create healthy juices, and Sleep Goddess, who’s unique range of handmade vegan sleep products has been featured in the likes of Stylist Magazine. Street food traders will offer everything from Mulled Wine and festive German-style sausages to handmade pasta.

Across the weekend, various performers will take centre stage, including a steel band, playing a mix of festive and Caribbean music, as well as performances from Pullman’s Dance Academy, choreographed by a Royal Ballet dancer.

A partnership between Barking Riverside Limited, the master developers behind Barking Riverside, and a group of residents who work with Barking Riverside to design events, the Barking Made Winter Market will take place at The Wilds on Saturday 4th December, and Rivergate Square on Sunday 5th December. Visitors on the 5th December will also get the chance to watch the Rivergate Square Christmas lights being switched on – bringing sparkle to one of the UK’s most important housing projects.

Sarah McCready, Head of Placemaking and Communications at Barking Riverside Limited, comments:

“There is a real entrepreneurial energy across Barking and Dagenham, so harnessing this and championing ‘Barking Made’ businesses is vital as we build one of the UK’s largest housing projects.

Our ambition is to grow the scale of the market, creating a recognisable brand and showcasing even more talent. Events like this not only provide an enjoyable evening for residents and visitors, but they also set the tone for how Barking Riverside Limited wants to approach economic growth in the area.

We are very proud that for our first market, over 50% of the traders are Barking Riverside entrepreneurs, and all the products on sale are produced right here in Barking and Dagenham.”
