Dulwich Picture Gallery - Friday Lates part II – expect the unexpected

Fresh off the back of our sold-out Pavilion Lates, we’re taking it up a notch with themed immersive nights, bringing you up close and personal with some of the darker sides of those mysterious old master paintings in our collection. We’re talking death cafés, wild life drawing and smelling tours - and that’s just for starters.

The Female of the Species
1 Sept, 6-10pm, £12 / £10

Taking inspiration from Cristofano Allori’s Judith, join us for a night celebrating deadly females, dangerous women and queen bees.

We’ll be joined by Alice Wroe, founder of Herstory, to discover the unsung 'sheroes' of history. Women like Ching Shih, the deadliest pirate on the Red Sea.

In the Pavilion, Wild Life Drawing will be hosting a drawing class with a difference and introducing us to animal species where the female rules the roost - including tree frogs and tarantulas!

We'll be taking a closer look at the woman in our Collection with a not-so-serious feminist tour with Iszi Lawrence (BBC Radio 4 Making History, British Museum Membercast) and a discussion on the 'Femme Fatale'.

Death: A Portrait
3 Nov, 6-10pm, £12 / £10

Join us for an alternative All Hallow's Eve as we explore the many faces of death at the Gallery, whether it’s the Mausoleum where the founders of the Gallery are buried or the commemorative portraits on our walls.

Looking at the complex and contradictory attitudes to this subject, we'll be bringing you death cafés, Memento Mori workshops and macabre salons.
