A shaggy dog story: Wolverley Chummie |
Born in 1899, this Skye Terrier was described by the Illustrated Kennel News as a 'huge-headed pup' with an 'obstinate' (stubborn) coat, yet despite the odds he was unbeaten in the show ring, winning 31 championship certificates. He later came to be known as a perfect example of his breed. |
|
Size: 112cm long and 27cm shoulder height
Displayed: On his death in 1910 he was donated to the Museum's dog collection.
Current location: Natural History Museum at Tring's dog collection.

An untold natural history story |
Freedman, healer, planter, spy |
Though visitors can spot his namesake on the iconic gilded ceiling of the Museum's Hintze Hall, few will have heard of Graman Kwasimukambe (also known as Kwasi, Quasi, Quassi and Quacy).
A Surinamese freedman, Kwasi is just one of many natural scientists and collectors whose important contributions have been neglected or overwritten in the canon of Western scientific history. |
